Here are some basic suggestions and good old fashioned rules about our dances:
These events are smoke-free and alcohol free. Smoking areas may be found outside the building.
Please PLEASE.. no jeans or shorts!
The Ballroom will be kept cool to help the dancers comfort, it is suggested that if you are cold to bring a sweater as the Ballroom temperature is controlled by an outside company and cannot be altered during the dances.
At the Friday Evening JCC dances, any food brought intot he JCC MUST be Kosher. Please respect this venue policy.
The use of proper, leather-soled or "Dance Shoes" is suggested. Try to avoid shoes with rubber bottoms or heavy tread as they are difficult to dance in.
Should anyone bump into anyone else, do the gentlemanly/lady-like thing and apologize (and no it does not matter who hit who, just apologize).
Solicitation of students by anyone is strictly prohibited and repeat offenders will be asked to leave, never to return.
Our events are not "pick-up joints" anyone making unwelcome advancements on anyone else will be immediately escorted out.
Do not wet or put additives (such as powder or resin) on any part of the dance floor. What may be sticky to you may be slippery to others, or vice-versa.
Please do not walk food or beverages across the dance floor. Help avoid accidents and take the “Scenic Route”, walking around the dance floor. If you do see liquid or food on the dance floor, please report it immediately.
This is not a competition. There are no judges to be found here, and so there is no need to show off. Keep the excessive arm movements and large-topped dance positions to the competition floor.
Social Dances are not the place for giving or taking private lessons. If someone forgot what was taught during the group lesson, some helpful advice and review is acceptable. This is not the place to try and teach someone what you learned last week at your dance studio. Leave teaching to the Professionals.
The dance floor is for dancing, not the place to stand and chat. Don’t Loiter on the Dance Floor!
If a song is playing that may be interpreted as a Spot Dance or a Progressive Dance, it is OK to share the floor. So if you are going to Swing, move to the center area of the floor. And if you are going to Foxtrot, the outer area is all yours!
HAVE FUN & HAPPY DANCING!!!!
